142 Australians killed at work this year - 7.11.14
Recent figures from Safe Work Australia indicate 142 Australian workers have been killed while at work this year.
According to the statistics, the transport, postal & warehousing industry has recorded the highest number of workplace deaths with 39 fatalities. The agriculture, forestry & fishing industry comes second with 31 fatalities while the construction industry comes third with 21 fatalities.
The mining and manufacturing industries with 14 and 11 fatalities respectively complete the list of top five industries with the highest number of workplace deaths so far.
In 2013, the agriculture, forestry and fishing industry recorded the highest number of fatalities (48) followed by the transport, postal and warehousing (46), and construction (19) industries. In the same year, the state of New South Wales recorded the highest number of fatalities at 53 (28%) followed by Queensland with 50 (26%) and Victoria with 31 (16%) according to the report “Work-related Traumatic Injury Fatalities, Australia 2013″.
