164 Australian workers killed in 2016 - 9.12.16
Latest figures from Safe Work Australia show as at 7 December, 164 Australian workers have been killed at work in 2016.
Transport, postal & warehousing workplaces have emerged as the most fatal, with 59 fatalities so far, followed by Agriculture, forestry & fishing workplaces with 39 fatalities.
The figures show 25 construction workers have died on the job in 2016. Arts & recreation services and Electricity, gas, water & waste services have each seven fatalities.
Other industries that have seen fatalities this year include Mining and Other services 6 fatalities each, Administrative & support services ( 3), Public administration & safety (2) Accommodation & food services (2) , Retail trade (2) and Information media & telecommunications (2).
Others include Manufacturing, Health care & social assistance, Professional, scientific & technical services and Wholesale trade each 1 fatality.
